Career Overview
At Church Drive Primary School, we believe in planting the seeds of curiosity, aspiration and understanding from an early age. Through our Careers-Related Learning Programme, we aim to help pupils discover the variety of jobs and roles in the world, understand how learning links to work, and build skills like confidence, teamwork, creativity and problem-solving. We want our pupils to understand how their learning links to the world beyond school.
Our aims:
- To broaden children’s knowledge of different occupations.
- To challenge stereotypes and promote equality of opportunity.
- To embed employability skills (communication, leadership, resilience etc) into everyday learning.
- To show how subjects taught in school link to real-world careers.
- To raise aspiration and prepare pupils for success in secondary school and beyond.
What we do:
- Curriculum links – lessons across subjects include references to real-life roles (scientists, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs.
- Visitors and role models – people from local businesses, charities and public services speak to our pupils about their work.
- Career Days/Weeks – themed events exploring different sectors.
- Enterprise and project work – opportunities for pupils to develop creativity, leadership and teamwork skills.
- Community engagement – connecting with local organisations to give pupils insight into the world of work.
Roles and Responsibilities
Our Careers Lead, Mrs. Jones works with teachers and support staff to embed career – related learning across the curriculum. All staff are encouraged to highlight how their subjects and activities link to future pathways.
Monitoring our Impact:
We gather feedback from pupils and staff, hold class discussions about what they have learned, and monitor how pupils’ awareness and aspirations grow over time. This feedback helps us plan future events and refine our approach.
Parents & Carers:
We encourage parents to support their children’s aspirations by discussing jobs and roles, helping with exploration at home (books, online), and by taking advantage of local events. Together we can inspire our pupils to dream big.
