We want our children to love exploring religions and worldviews, and to grow up with curiosity, respect, and a deep understanding of beliefs and values around the world. We believe Religious Education (RE) should provoke challenging questions, encourage open-mindedness, and help pupils develop knowledge and skills to understand and reflect on the beliefs and practices of others, as well as their developing views.
Our RE curriculum is organised into thematic and enquiry-based units that link closely to children’s experiences and wider learning across the curriculum. Knowledge and skills are progressively built upon each year to ensure depth of understanding. Each unit begins with a key question, encouraging children to investigate, reflect, and discuss. Stories, artefacts, texts, and real-life examples are used to bring learning to life and make complex ideas meaningful.
In order to become thoughtful and informed individuals, we recognise the importance of children thinking critically and developing empathy and respect. They explore a diverse range of religions and non-religious worldviews, gaining insight into how beliefs shape lives, communities, and cultures. The religions studied are carefully selected to reflect our diverse world and support the promotion of inclusivity, tolerance, and mutual understanding. Through this, children come to understand how religion and belief have shaped – and continue to shape – history, identity, and society.
Right to Withdraw from Religious Education Statement
In the UK, parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE on the grounds that they wish to make their own provision. This alternative will be the parents’ responsibility. This right of withdrawal exists for all pupils in all types of schools, including schools with and without a religious designation. Students aged 18 or over have the right to withdraw from RE. Parents also have the right to withdraw their child from part of RE and can do so without giving any explanation.
